United, We Are Truly Powerful – The 908 Taiwanese National Movement Illuminating and Incandescent at Taichung

The 908 Taiwanese National Movement is formed by union of Taiwan’s pro-localization non-profit organizations with the aim of nation-building.  On November First of 2008 at Taichung Park’s “Reject China, Bless Taiwan, Rally for Folks” activity, several thousand (4000 to 5000) people pro-actively came and participated.  When President Chen Shui-Bien came, there permeated a poignant passion directed for nation-guarding and nation-building.  We, the Tati Cultural and Educational Foundation, are also invited to be a member of the organizing committee.

Burning Oneself So Brightly

Emotionally stirring events have to use the method of making sacrifices to brew the drives and the dynamics.  When Professor Tsai Ting-Kuei (蔡丁貴) began his meditation protest in front of the Legislative Yuan on Oct. 25th, I personally went there to observe.  At that time, there were about 80 participants.

“What is the Republic of China [ROC]?” was the question posed yesterday by former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) in the latest of his jailhouse writings.

Chen referred to remarks by his predecessors as evidence that doubts on the legitimacy of the term ROC continue to linger. His comments come shortly after the concept of being “Taiwanese” was raised as an issue by the ongoing presidential campaigns.

“Former president Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) once said on March 13, 1950 ... that ‘our Republic of China was destroyed when we lost the mainland at the end of last year,’” Chen wrote in a statement published by his office.
