Pakistan and Thailand guilty of deporting Uyghurs

DHARAMSHALA, August, 11: Pakistan deported five ethnic Uyghur immigrants back to China on Tuesday amidst fear that they will face harsh punishment upon return.

The Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported that five “Chinese citizens” who were “blindfolded and handcuffed” were flown off to Urmuqi, the capital of East Turkestan.

"The deportation of Uyghurs are common nowadays, but it is very rare to be exposed to the media," said Omer Khan, founder of the Omer Uyghur Foundation in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

DPP to file lawsuit against Ma

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) yesterday alleged that President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) and former presidential spokesman Lo Chih-chang (羅智強) violated the Anti-Corruption Act (貪污治罪條例) when they turned Ma’s Facebook page from a state property managed by the Presidential Office into a private asset managed by Ma’s re-election campaign office without following proper procedures.

The Presidential Office set up Ma’s Facebook page in late January and its management was transferred to Ma’s re-election campaign office on July 2.

According to DPP spokesman Chuang Ruei-hsiung (莊瑞雄), changes of ownership or rights of operation of all national property should go through open, selective or limited tendering procedures in accordance with the Public Procurement Act (政府採購法).

The Control Yuan yesterday voted 6-4 to impeach former Council of Agriculture (COA) chairman Su Jia-chyuan (蘇嘉全) for illegally constructing a luxury farmhouse on agricultural land without engaging in any agriculture.

“Su used his administrative privileges during his terms as Pingtung County commissioner, minister of the interior and COA chairman to build a farmhouse on an agricultural land as a mansion for his own use. None of the equipment or the remaining land were found to be used for agriculture, which constitutes a violation of the Agricultural Development Act (農業發展條例),” the Control Yuan told a press conference following a meeting to discuss the case.
