School drops bowing to Sun Yat-sen

Kaohsiung Municipal Senior High School will no longer make its students bow to portraits of Republic of China (ROC) founding father Sun Yat-sen (孫逸仙) and the ROC flag at its end-of-semester ceremony, school officials said yesterday.

The US is disappointed at President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) announcement yesterday that he is to today visit Itu Aba Island (Taiping Island, 太平島), the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said, calling it an “unhelpful” move.

Ukrainians and their supporters yesterday held “Toward Victory” rallies in Hsinchu, Taichung and Taipei to show solidarity with Ukraine, as Russia’s invasion of the country enters its third month.

At a rally in front of Liberty Square in Taipei, dozens of people unfurled a 7m wide and 3m long handmade Ukrainian flag while singing the country’s national anthem.
