School drops bowing to Sun Yat-sen

Kaohsiung Municipal Senior High School will no longer make its students bow to portraits of Republic of China (ROC) founding father Sun Yat-sen (孫逸仙) and the ROC flag at its end-of-semester ceremony, school officials said yesterday.

Ma’s visit is ‘unhelpful,’ AIT says

The US is disappointed at President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) announcement yesterday that he is to today visit Itu Aba Island (Taiping Island, 太平島), the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) said, calling it an “unhelpful” move.
