China warns US over arms sales to Taiwan

Contacts with China’s military would likely be the first to suffer if Beijing moves to retaliate over upcoming US arms sales to Taiwan — the latest in a flurry of disputes elevating tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu (馬朝旭) warned that the Obama administration risked damaging ties with China if it proceeds with an arms package deal, which is likely to include Black Hawk helicopters and Patriot missiles.

Taiwan's loss of independence a threat to US: expert

A leading US academic warned that if Taiwan loses its independence and becomes part of China, its impact on US interests would be “complex and dangerous.”

Nancy Tucker, an expert on Taiwan at Georgetown University in Washington, said that the US' place in Asia would “never be the same again.”

DHARAMSHALA, September 8: In growing exchanges between Taiwan and Tibet, a Taiwanese group is currently in Dharamshala, the exile Tibetan headquarters, visiting Tibetan offices and meeting with exile leaders.

Organisers of the trip, the Gu Chu Sum Former Political Prisoner’s Movement of Tibet and the Taiwanese Friends of Tibet group, yesterday held a joint press conference, addressed by Professor Chang Yen Hsien, head of the Taiwan Association of University Professors.
