Summer camps seen as propaganda

The Ministry of Education is coming under fire from Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers for helping facilitate summer exchange programs between Chinese and Taiwanese schools, which they claim are part of China’s “united front” tactics.

The ministry on Thursday promoted the exchanges in its online newsletter, and the National Museum of Natural Science is among the institutions involved in the exchanges, but the ministry should be worried about China “infiltrating schools” across the nation, DPP legislator Wang Ding-yu (王定宇) and Huang Kuo-shu (黃國書) said on Monday.

The opening tomorrow of the new American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) compound in Taipei’s Neihu District (內湖) represents an improvement in bilateral ties and a move toward the normalization Taiwan-US relations, chairman of Taiwan New Century Foundation Chen Lung-chu (陳隆志) said yesterday.

National Taiwan University (NTU) finance professor Lee Tsun-siou (李存修) engaged in illegal part-time work by sitting on the board of directors of China International Fund Management (上投摩根基金管理), an investment fund company wholly controlled by the Shanghai Municipal Government, New Power Party (NPP) Legislator Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) claimed yesterday.
