Pyongyang vows US strike as UN votes on sanctions

North Korea yesterday vowed to launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the US, amplifying its threatening rhetoric hours ahead of a vote by UN diplomats on whether to level new sanctions against Pyongyang for its recent nuclear test.

An unidentified spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the North will exercise its right for “a pre-emptive nuclear attack to destroy the strongholds of the aggressors” because Washington is pushing to start a nuclear war against Pyongyang.

DHARAMSHALA, March 6: Starting from this year, March 10, the Tibetan National Uprising Day will also be observed as Tibetan Martyr’s Day.

The decision to formally observe a Martyr’s Day to commemorate the sacrifices made by Tibetans inside and outside Tibet was unanimously approved during the Second Special General Meeting of the Tibetan People held in September 2012.

Saying that jailed former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) has severe depression, Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) yesterday recommended that Chen be transferred to a hospital with a specialized psychiatric department for further treatment.

Chou Yuan-hua (周元華), a psychiatrist at the hospital, told a press conference held jointly with Taipei Prison to explain Chen’s medical situation that Chen has severe depression and anxiety, and that many depression sufferers can also have physical symptoms such as headaches and chest tightness.
