China sentences another eight to death in Urumqi

A court in China’s restive Xinjiang yesterday sentenced three more people to death for their roles in July ethnic violence, Xinhua news agency reported, raising the total reported condemned to 17.

On Thursday, the court handed out death sentences to five others.

Beijing's Strategies to Control Taiwan by 2012

TAIPEI, Taiwan—The Chinese communist regime is determined to “unify” with Taiwan by 2012, according to exiled Chinese law professor Yuan Hongbing. He discloses confidential findings in his new book, Taiwan Disaster, which was released on Nov. 17 in Taipei.

In his presentation at National Taiwan University on November 17, Yuan said that a lot of documents quoted in the book were provided by regime insiders—insiders who risked their own lives to reveal the truth.

DHARAMSHALA, November 6: Five monks from the Drango Monastery in the Kardze region of eastern Tibet have been sentenced to varying prison terms of six to seven years for their alleged involvement in a major anti-China protest that erupted in the area earlier this year.

Dharamshala based rights group Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in a release today said their sentencing came after months of arbitrary detention and disappearance.
