Engineers mull cause of collapse

Yesterday’s collapse of the Nanfangao Bridge (南方澳橋) in Yilan County might have been due to rusted anchoring points, Taipei Technology College of Engineering dean Sung Yu-chi (宋裕祺) said.

National Police Agency Director-General Chen Ja-chin (陳家欽) yesterday vowed to conduct a strict investigation into an attack against Hong Kong singer, actor and democracy campaigner Denise Ho (何韻詩) on Sunday in Taipei.

DHARAMSHALA, August 28: In confirmed reports coming out of Tibet, two young Tibetans set themselves on fire Monday in an apparent protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet.

The two have been identified as Lobsang Kalsang, an 18-year-old monk of the Kirti Monastery in Ngaba eastern Tibet and Damchoe, a former monk at the monastery, aged around 17.
