International participation should be part of cross-strait talks: Control Yuan

A Control Yuan report recommended that a model for participation in international organizations be added to the agenda for the fifth round of cross-strait talks next year.

Titled “Taiwan’s Participation in International Organizations,” the report also said the public should not have high expectations of the so-called “1992 consensus” because China’s insistence on the “one China” principle remains unchanged despite the change in Taiwan’s government.

Self-determination group completes nationwide walk

Members of a group supporting the idea that “the people are the master of the country” finished a walk around Taiwan, which started at Taipei City’s Lungshan Temple on Nov. 8, reaching their starting point yesterday after walking about 1,030km.

Lin I-hsiung (林義雄), a long-time democracy stalwart and former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) chairman who initiated the campaign, urged the public to pay attention to its appeal.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chairman Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) and former DPP chairperson Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) yesterday paid tribute to murdered professor Chen Wen-chen (陳文成) to commemorate the 31st anniversary of his passing.

The two senior DPP officials posted tributes to Chen on their Facebook pages and highlighted the significance of Chen’s death during the White Terror era to the nation’s democratic development.
