Chinese media pans Google and alleges US intelligence links

Chinese media unleashed a torrent of criticism against Google on Saturday after reports it would leave the country, with Xinhua news agency alleging that the company was linked to US intelligence.

The comments were the latest in a series of angry exchanges sparked by the row over the Internet giant’s complaints of cyber hacking and censorship in the country.

Ma pushed me to quit: ex-TFD chief

Lin Wen-cheng (林文程) said he resigned as executive director of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) under pressure from President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九).

The foundation, founded in 2003 under the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration, was established with government funds with the aim of promoting human rights and democracy worldwide.

Japan should enforce a law parallel to the US’ Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) to consolidate its partnership with Taiwan, Jikido Aeba, a Japanese lawmaker and academic, told a seminar in Taipei yesterday.
