High Court to rule on KMT’s role in 228 Incident

The question of the degree to which the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) should shoulder responsibility for the 228 Incident is to be ruled on in the Taiwan High Court on March 9.

The Taipei District Court has already rejected a case brought by the families of 108 victims, ruling that the massacre was ordered by the government of the day and was unrelated to the KMT per se.

Protesters tail Chinese envoy as he tours south

Protesters from around the country yesterday converged in Greater Kaohsiung, the first stop of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait Chairman Chen Yunlin’s (陳雲林) first trip to southern Taiwan, for a second day of protest.

Small groups of rowdy demonstrators streamed into key venues throughout Chen’s visit, including E-DA World, the tourist complex where Chen was staying and had lunch with local Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) politicians and business executives.

DHARAMSHALA, August 7: The Tibetan who self-immolated yesterday in Ngaba, eastern Tibet has been identified as 21-year-old Lobsang Tsultrim, a monk at the Kirti Monastery.

In a release today the exile seat of the Kirti Monastery in Dharamshala said Lobsang Tsultrim set himself on fire at around 5.05 pm (local time) yesterday.
