Chinese warplanes approach Taiwan at night

The air force on Monday scrambled to warn off approaching Chinese jets, the first time they were spotted near Taiwan’s air space at night, the Ministry of National Defense said.

The US Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative (TAIPEI) Act, designed to help Taiwan stabilize diplomatic ties, which awaits US President Donald Trump’s signature to take effect.

The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission on Wednesday published its annual report, in which it quoted Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation research fellow Peter Mattis as saying that Beijing’s aim is to create “a ‘fake civil society’ that can be used against Taiwan’s democratic system.”
