Taiwan Solidarity Union plans for people to egg ‘Ma’

The Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) and civic groups yesterday urged supporters to participate in various protests to be held around President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) inauguration ceremony on May 20 to voice their discontent with the administration.

At a massive protest at Huashan 1914 Creative Park, arranged by the TSU for the morning of May 20, people will be invited to throw eggs at a giant LCD screen broadcasting Ma’s inauguration ceremony, TSU Chairman Huang Kun-huei (黃昆輝) said.

Beijing seizes Tibetan nomad land for Chinese migrants

DHARAMSHALA, May 7: In another instance of forced removal of Tibetan nomads from their grasslands, Chinese authorities have grabbed land from three Tibetan nomadic villages in eastern Tibet.

According to sources in the region, the land confiscated from the Setong, Dragmar, and Seru villages will be given to thousands of new Chinese migrants.

A top national security official yesterday said China had begun deploying a new long-range ballistic missile aimed at Taiwan, adding that the missile’s destructive capacity went beyond that of the current missiles in China’s arsenal.

National Security Bureau (NSB) Director Tsai Der-sheng (蔡得勝) told the legislature’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee that in addition to deploying the Dong Feng-16 (DF-16), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was also now fielding the DF-21, also known as the “aircraft carrier killer,” which could put any US Navy vessels coming to Taiwan’s assistance at great risk.
