Breaking: Tibet continues to burn with another self-immolation

DHARAMSHALA,October 13: In confirmed reports coming out of Tibet, yet another Tibetan has set himself on fire in protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet.

Tamdin Dorjee, 52, set himself on fire around 1:00 pm (local time) on October 13th Saturday in Tsoe, Kanlho region of north-eastern Tibet. Tamdin Dorjee passed away at the site of his protest.

Former VP optimistic about future anti-nuclear referendum

Former vice president Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) yesterday said she was optimistic an anti-nuclear referendum in New Taipei City (新北市) would be held next year to stop the operation of the yet-to-be-completed Fourth Nuclear Power Plant in Longmen (龍門).

“The Taiwan Alliance for Green 21 is ready to submit a referendum proposal after collecting more than 16,000 signatures and is now working on the next goal of 160,000 signatures, the threshold for a referendum in New Taipei City,” Lu, founder of the alliance, said during her visit to the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) seeking support.

Tseng Sheng-kuang (曾聖光), a Taiwanese volunteer soldier who died in November while fighting for Ukraine, was honored by the Council of Indigenous Peoples at a memorial service in Hualien yesterday.

Tseng was honored with the highest award of the Contribution to Indigenous Peoples for his sacrifice in resisting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as for democracy, freedom and justice, council Minister Icyang Parod said at the ceremony.
