A Tibetan Woman self-immolates over encroachment

DHARAMSHALA, April 5: An unidentified Tibetan woman has set herself on fire in Kyegudo in Amdo (Ch: Qinghai) Province to protest against the demolition of her home.

Citing sources in the region, the US-based Radio Free Asia said the protest occurred last week when a Chinese wrecking crew arrived to destroy her house.

Return to prison not good for Chen: doctor

Former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) is suffering from various ailments, and it would not be good for him to return to prison, his attending physician told lawmakers yesterday.

Chou Yuan-hua (周元華), a psychiatrist in charge of Chen’s care at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH), added that it would be better for the former president to be looked after at home or to stay in a hospital that has a psychiatry department near his home.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) demonstration against the government’s China-leaning economic policies will be held on Sunday in Taichung starting at 2:30pm, the party announced yesterday, urging the public to join the protest.

The protest will be held on the eve of the fourth meeting between Taiwan’s Straits Exchange (SEF) Foundation Chairman Chiang Pin-kung (江丙坤) and his Chinese counterpart, Chen Yunlin (陳雲林), head of Beijing’s Association on Relations Across the Taiwan Strait (ARATS).
