Groups planning independence march

In the face of the administration’s elaborate plans to celebrate the Republic of China’s (ROC) centennial, a pro-independence group yesterday said it was teaming up with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to hold a march on Sept. 8 to reaffirm Taiwan’s sovereignty.

Former Examination Yuan president Yao Chia-wen (姚嘉文), who heads the Taiwan Nation Alliance, said at least three major events would be held this year.

Chen won’t be charged over ‘secrets’

Taipei prosecutors announced yesterday they would not indict former president Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) over charges that he leaked national secrets by disclosing details about the Presidential Office’s underground tunnel.

Since such information had previously been made public by a former security chief, it was no longer considered a national secret, prosecutors said.

A spoof of the poster for the movie Back To The Future features President Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President Vincent Siew as the two main characters. The poster was made by an Internet user to ridicule Ma after it was found that he had pre-recorded his online videos scheduled for the next two Saturdays.

Internet users made fun of President Ma Ying-jeou yesterday after discovering “futuristic” online videos prerecorded by the Presidential Office.

An Internet user named Xdite wrote on the popular Web forum PTT that if users substituted the Web Site address of Ma’s weekly video for the dates July 25 and Aug. 1, viewers could watch in advance Ma’s online videos scheduled for the next two Saturdays.

The two videos were circulated among pan-green Plurkers before being removed yesterday.
