COVID-19: Two more pilots test positive

Two more China Airlines (CAL, 華航) cargo pilots have been diagnosed with COVID-19, adding up to seven pilots diagnosed with the virus over the past week, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported yesterday.

New street names, old issues

A failed attempt by Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) to attack the central government has drawn renewed attention to the many streets in Taiwan that are named after places in China.

Describing the legislature in Taipei as surrounded by a “Chinatown,” Ko in a Facebook video on Thursday highlighted that many streets in the city are named after places across the Taiwan Strait, including Qingdao, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing and Guangzhou.

A certain political party has been presenting itself as the “local” party, sporting phrases such as “Taiwan consciousness,” but its headquarters are on Beiping E Road, Ko said, referring to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) without directly mentioning it.

Like a pack of bloodthirsty wolves, China’s military is launching marauding incursions against Taiwan in an increasingly reckless manner.

In the past few months, Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) fighters, heavy bombers and reconnaissance aircraft have been harassing Taiwan’s southwestern air defense identification zone on a near daily basis, often in packs of 10 or more.

Earlier this month, the PLA Navy dispatched the Liaoning aircraft carrier group to conduct a simulated blockade of Taiwan in the waters off the nation’s east coast.

A bipartisan coalition of US congressmen on Monday introduced legislation that aims to counter China’s claim to represent Taiwan in international organizations.
