Chinese police beats Tibetan monk to death

DHARAMSHALA, June 2: Four months after torturing a Tibetan monk to death for his alleged role in a peaceful protest, Chinese authorities in eastern Tibet recently revealed that the monk was no more.

Tsering Gyaltsen, 40 from Kham Dragko monastery was arrested on February 9, following the mass protests in Dragko on January 23.

DHARAMSHALA, May 30: A mother of three young children has torched herself to death in an apparent protest against China’s continued occupation of Tibet, today.

Rikyo, 33, set herself on fire near the Jonang Zamthang Gonchen monastery in Zamthang (Ch: Rangtang) county, in the distraught Ngaba region, the nerve centre of the ongoing wave of self-immolations in Tibet.

Mainland Affairs Council Minister Chen Ming-tong (陳明通) on Thursday said that the government had received asylum applications from at least 200 Hong Kongers as Beijing seeks to ram through a national security bill for the territory.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has said that there is no need to introduce refugee legislation to offer Hong Kongers asylum, while Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) has said the Act Governing Relations With Hong Kong and Macau (香港澳門關係條例) does not need to be amended to deal with such requests.
