Taiwan ‘force for good’: US delegate

The leader of a US congressional delegation to Taiwan praised the nation as a “force for good” in the world during a meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) yesterday, and said that under her administration, ties with the US were more productive than in prior decades.

Use of the phrase “democratic Taiwan” by Germany’s new coalition government in official document shows that Taiwan-China issues are not about “independence” against “unification,” but about democracy against authoritarianism, Representative to Germany Shieh Jhy-wey (謝志偉) said yesterday.

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) has laundered some of its ill-gotten party assets by transferring the ownership of a party-run machinery corporation to two private companies, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲) said yesterday.

Lin’s allegation was backed by Liu Chao-yi (劉昭毅), son of former KMT investment boss Liu Tai-ying (劉泰英).
