Tosh, Yeh share views on freedom

The daughter of a top Uighur activist and the wife of a Taiwanese democracy pioneer yesterday shared stories of the Uighur and Taiwanese struggles for freedom.

Raela Tosh, daughter of World Uyghur Congress (WUC) president Rebiya Kadeer, met former vice premier Yeh Chu-lan (葉菊蘭) during a visit to a museum dedicated to her husband, Deng Nan-jung (鄭南榕), on the last day of Tosh’s four-day stay in Taiwan.

Swaziland reaffirms that ‘marriage’ with Taiwan will not end

Swaziland’s foreign affairs minister reaffirmed the country’s ties with Taiwan, describing the relationship between the two countries as a marriage that will not end in a divorce, even if China were to approach the country.

During a talk with Taiwanese media on Tuesday, Swazi Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Lutfo Dlamini said that Swaziland and Taiwan “have [been] married for 42 years and we have a provision that there is no room for divorce.”

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) legislative caucus yesterday issued a notice in a bid to eliminate the budget for the Transitional Justice Commission at a review tomorrow.

“The alleged breach of neutrality seen in the incident involving [former commission chairman] Chang Tien-chin (張天欽) exposed the commission’s positioning as an ‘Eastern Depot,’” the notice said, referring to a Ming Dynasty-era secret police and spy agency.
