DHARAMSHALA, December 14: Tibetans and supporters across the world commemorated the 63rd Human Rights Day with protest marches and campaigns calling on China to respect the fundamental human rights in Tibet, Saturday.

Tibetans and supporters in the Australian capital city of Canberra carried out a 24-hour hunger strike in front of the Chinese embassy, culminating with a peace march on December 10, which was attended by over 300 people.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was overwhelmed by support yesterday as its piggy bank fundraising event came to an end.

The “three little pigs” fundraising event began in the middle of October after the Control Yuan said the donation of a piggy bank to the DPP by three-year-old triplets in Greater Tainan was in violation of the Act Governing Political Donations (政治獻金管理條例).

The nation was struck by a magnitude 6.3 earthquake and four large aftershocks yesterday, killing one person and damaging infrastructure and private properties in the north.

After the main earthquake hit at 9:42am, an aftershock measuring magnitude 5.0 occurred seven minutes later, with the two epicenters only 13.2km apart.
