DHARAMSHALA, July 19: A Tibet monk, missing for the past eight months, was finally traced after he was produced in a Chinese court in eastern Tibet and sentenced to three years in prison on unknown charges.

Lodoe, a 36-year-old monk from the Kirti Monastery in the beleaguered Ngaba region of eastern Tibet was arrested on October 20 last year and had not been heard off since.

DHARAMSHALA, July 17: A teenage Tibetan monk set himself on fire today in an apparent protest against the Chinese government in the beleaguered region of Ngaba, eastern Tibet.

Lobsang Lozin, 18, set himself on fire at around 12 noon near his monastery’s main prayer hall and began walking towards the local Chinese office in flames before falling down.

DHARAMSHALA, March 5: Beijing based Tibetan writer Tsering Woeser has dedicated her International Women’s Courage Award to Tibetan self-immolators, numbering over 100, who have set themselves on fire protesting China’s occupation.

Writing to Phayul, Woeser, 44, who is currently under house arrest due to heightened security restrictions following China’s parliamentary session, said the recognition by the United States government gives her “mixed feelings.”
