Freddy Lim unfolds New Power Party platform

The frontman of the heavy metal band Chthonic, Freddy Lim (林昶佐), has channeled his anger at corruption into action. He intends to effect change from the inside out by running for office in Taipei’s Wanhua (萬華) and Zhongzheng (中正) districts under the banner of the the New Power Party (NPP), which he founded.

In an interview, Lim recently outlined his party’s campaign platform and described his commitment to promoting independence, justice and fairness.

US Naval War College professor James Holmes has some advice for Taiwan on how to avoid a Chinese takeover.

“I reject the idea that a free people is doomed to fall to foreign conquerors,” he said.

Writing on Web site RealClearDefense, the strategy expert said that Taiwan can “master its destiny” if it does a few basic things.

The Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) yesterday launched a signature drive to recall President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), citing the nation’s deteriorating fiscal condition and what the party referred to as Ma’s incompetence.

“Taiwan cannot afford a president wasting another four years not doing anything,” TSU Chairman Huang Kun-huei (黃昆輝) told a press conference, calling on Taiwanese to help themselves by supporting the signature drive.
