DHARAMSHALA, October 30: China has produced fake propaganda films in recent weeks where Tibetans and Tibetan officials in occupied Tibet have been forced to act and speak against the ongoing spate of self-immolations in Tibet.
Phuntsok, a 20-year old Tibetan monk from Ngaba region of Tibet who set himself on fire last March calling for freedom in Tibet and return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been ‘depicted’ in the film.
The ‘monk’ praises the Chinese police and expresses his regret for setting himself on the fire.
Phuntsok had died following his self-immolation.
When a ‘journalist’ asks what do you feel now, the ‘monk’ answers in the recorded film, "I regret."
"Chinese police and the doctors have been nice to me," the fake film shows the ‘monk’ as saying.
Chinese government is said to be broadcasting such fake films in an attempt to discourage the Tibetans.
Lobsang Yeshi and Kanyag Tsering, two Tibetan monks from the exile base of Kirti Monastery in Dharamshala, in a release Friday said that such films were an insult to the sacrifices being made by Tibetans inside Tibet.
"Tibetans and Tibetan officials in the region were also being forced to speak against the Tibetan freedom fighters and accuse them," said the two monks in the release.
"Earlier, the Chinese government used to force Tibetans to accuse Tibetan spiritual leaders including His Holiness the Dalai Lama and now they are forcing Tibetans to accuse our freedom fighters".
According to the release, arbitrary arrests and detentions without trail have become common in recent weeks in the distraught Ngaba region.
"Four monks and one magazine editor in the Ngaba region have arrested since the beginning of the month. Their well being and whereabouts are unknown," said the two monks.
Dawa, a Tibetan teacher and editor of a local magazine was arrested at the beginning of the month, while Lodoe, a monk was arrested by the Chinese police from Ngaba last Thursday.
The rest of the three monks and another Tibetan were arrested in Lhasa days back. "We are yet to know their names," said the two monks.
